End Pull is a cinematic exploration of temporal and sonic distortions inspired by Michael Snow’s “Wavelength.” Shot in Armenia, it features a continuous manual zoom through an ancient riverbed in a region scarred by recent war and gold mining.
The camera’s gaze travels from a wide, kilometres-long shot into the rock’s minuscule details, revealing layers of minerals and historical distortions. A hypnotic, psychoacoustic soundtrack creates a dizzying sonic pressure, syncopated by the voices of two ancient demons—Hārut and Mārut. Awakened from their ancient slumber by the din of artillery and mining, they contemplate death, magic, and disappearance. Blending subterranean mythology with contemporary events, the film explores the infinite tension between destruction and renewal.
Andrius Arutiunian
A composer by training, Andrius Arutiunian works with hybrid forms of sound in installations, video works and performances. His multidisciplinary work explores non-Western knowledge, esoteric and vernacular narratives, and alternative ways of organising the world. Through themes as varied as oil drilling, border violence and artificial intelligence technologies, Andrius Arutiunian’s work often challenges the notion of musical, social and political harmony through hypnotic and enigmatic sound forms.
