Lithuanian, English subtitlesFilmmaker Travis Wilkerson arrives in Split, Croatia, with the intention of making a film about the fall of Yugoslavia, but turns the other way. We meet police detective Ivan Peric, who is investigating the deaths of tourists in the country. The viscous bureaucratic system and the locals’ hatred of foreigners make every Croat a suspect and the cases unsolvable. By linking the present with the past, the director brings to the fore the Ustasha movement, which committed genocide against Serbs, Roma and Jews. The ingrained hatred is also evident in today’s society, with manifestations of aggression and fascist symbols visible in the public spaces of the city. This is a film that reveals a different side of a holiday resort country.
Travis Wilkerson
Writer, director and producer. He and his wife Erin Wilkerson founded the Creative Agitation political art collective and went on to direct the film Nuclear Family which screened in Vilnius Documentary Film Festival. His internationally recognised body of filmmaking, produced with modest resources and as self-sufficiently as possible, crosses the boundaries between documentary and fiction film, performance and activism. In 2015, the film magazine “Sight & Sound” named Wilkerson “the political conscience of American cinema”.
