Thematic program “Personal Perspectives”

All movies

The Super 8 years

“In re-viewing our super eight films, shot between 1972 and 1981, it occurred to me that they comprised not only a family archive but a testimony to the pastimes, lifestyle and aspirations of a social class in the decade after 1968. I wanted to incorporate these silent images into a story which combined the intimate with the social and with history, to convey the taste and colour of those years.” (Annie Ernaux)

The programme was put together by film scholars dr. Renata Šukaitytė and dr. Zanė Balčus, with the aim to present a vivid trend in contemporary documentary film to communicate with the audience about complex issues of social and political life in a personally sensitive, aesthetically effective and intellectually provoking manner.

Author of some twenty books, Annie Ernaux is considered one of France's most important writers. Her work, essentially autobiographical, has won numerous awards. She was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2022.
