Lancalot Freely

Canada, 1980, 20 min.

Tales of friends from youth are often imbued with romance but not in this film. Mettler meets his friend who has now moved out of his parents’ house and lives an independent brutal life. The camera sometimes captures the hero from the side and sometimes gets into his own hands, which brings the documentary portrait even closer to the spectator. All the anger, radical philosophy and almost hate speech of the character become as real and intimate as if we were walking in his shoes.

Canada, 2007, 3 min.

The filmmaker of this short documentary used his cellphone camera to shoot these scenes in Costa Rica. He reflects on the dichotomy of nature versus technology.

Eastern Avenue

Canada, Switzerland, 1985, 55 min.

Mettler calls this film an exploration of intuition. Personal visions-images from Berlin, Portugal, Switzerland, all the landscapes, people, and cities. The shots follow each other without any order. However, accompanied by the experimental music they become a story – an intimate traveler’s diary.
