Rock Bottom Riser

Hawaiian Islands is the place where lava flows from the very core of the earth. Constantly repetitive, mesmerizing images of an erupting volcano hypnotize and engage in an almost psychedelic visual experiment. In this video essay, the pop culture, contemporary art practices, science fiction, and the history of the Hawaiian Islands intertwine while posing the questions – what’s the use of our ambitions to know the foreign lands? Can we tame the magnificent and unpredictable nature? The film discusses the post-colonial state, ecology and human cognition.
