Using neither narration, nor an inch of original footage, Thom Andersen dances through most of the movie history, and takes the writings of the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze to accompany him. This is not a notebook, nor a test for a cinephile and there is no need to recognize the unidentified clips assembled here, or the quotations that divide and guide. Director’s masterful editing lets the viewer to feel the power of every image he quotes and leaves space to your own thought.
Thom Andersen
Born in 1943, in Chicago. Studied ant Berkeleys university and Los Angeles USC School of Cinematic Arts. Teaches at a prestigious California Institute of Arts. Is one of US’s foremost film essayists. His works usually fuse history, geography, political analysis and visual criticism.
