Audrius Stonys Retrospective

All movies

3rd Programme ("Countdown", "Uku Ukai", Lithuania, 75’)

Countdown

Following in the footsteps of Augustinas Baltrušaitis, a renowned film and theater director and actor of the Soviet era, Stonys leads a reverse investigation into the motives that led his alter-ego being put into the limbo of society and memory. “Countdown” is a film about the limits of memory, the effects of the implacable passage of time, and hope that surpasses time.

Uku Ukai

With no narrative thread other than rhythm, movement and observation, “Uku Ukai” is a poetic and metaphysical meditation on the relationship that human beings, faced with their inevitable end, maintain with their bodies.

Audrius Stonys

In 1989 Audrius Stonys graduated with a degree in TV and film directing from the Vilnius Conservatory. In 1989 he studied at the Jonas Mekas Film Anthology Archives in New York. In 1992 his film “Earth of the Blind” received the Felix Award from the European Film Academy as Best Documentary Film of the year. In 2004 and 2005 he lectured in documentary cinema at the European Film College in Denmark. He is an active participant at various international creative workshops and is also a jury member at film festivals.
