Suddenly My Thoughts Halt

A cup of coffee, a cigarette. A coin, another cup of coffee. Patients roam the halls. They walk alone. Waiting. Another smoke – a burning cigarette. Therapies that appeal to the senses. Routines that pull them back to reality. It is life repeating itself in a psychiatric hospital – lucidity and madness living together. An actor from the outside dives into this schizophrenic world, and starts to build a theatre performance with the patients from the hospital. Soon we see him galloping through the grounds as he rehearses the scene with the hallucinated horse. The longer we follow him and the delightful residents of the hospital, the more we realise: the transition is blurred – and that is the testimony to the outstanding narrative quality of this extraordinary film.
