Joseph Brodsky. Conversation with a Heavenly Being

The core of the film is the conversation of critic Solomon Volkov with the Nobel Prize laureate Joseph Brodsky that took place in 1993 in New York. The poet tells about the dramatic turns in his life, gives answers to tender questions, talks about poetry, shares his memories and makes funny remarks. The poems of Brodsky are read by Kiril Pirogov and the poet himself. The film was made in commemoration of the anniversary of the poet’s birth. An article dedicated to the poet’s death anniversary that the film director read in 1997 made a huge impact on his life. Since that moment of their first “acquaintance” onwards, Liberov has thought of Brodsky as his life companion. In the director’s own words, it was important for him to not only tell about the poet, but also create an atmosphere that would best reflect what and how it is being talked about. The film uses the cinematic idiom of animation.
