This film is about displacement, telling a story about people who were evicted from their farmsteads and moved to settlements. Having throbbed with life for so many years, these family nests were destroyed. The film is the director’s heartbreaking farewell to the villagers although it was expected to be a joyful reflection of Soviet life with its emerging collective farm lifestyle and the newfound convenience that it supposedly gave to the people.
