Version Vera

Vera Mukhina, born in Riga, went to Paris in 1912 to study under Rodin’s pupil Bourdelle. Her monumental, 53 meter-high sculptural ensemble Worker and Peasant Woman, weighing 75 tons, becomes a sensation at the 1937 International Exhibition in Paris. Picasso expresses great enthusiasm for Mukhina’s work. She truly believes in humanist ideals, and this is successfully used by the USSR propaganda machine. The film is a diary about an artist’s relations with the state, herself and her work – a theme that reaches over the boundaries of time.
